The coproduction
is an interactive encounter between new music and contemporary dance.
The initial musical source is the piano work of Greek composer Aristides Strongylis (*1974). The composer and the dance theater ellaH, under Annett Paschke’s direction, developped a concert-like dance theater evening, which formulates seven images of humanity between birth, love, ectasy and death. Strongylis plays his own work, leading the performers thereby in dark, sensual or merry worlds and is himself in their middle.
A reciprocal exchange process takes place on stage. The dancers become composing elements of the music, the composer and his piano become a dancing instrument.
Anja Scholz, who has again developped the costumes and scenic concept for this production, subtly enhances the connections between humans, sound and space.
The piece of music
The piano work in seven pieces “The seven open chakras of Dionysos” from Aristides Strongylis was created in 2009. The thematical frame of the piece is the intercept point of two structuring cultural ideas: the Indian teachings about chakras and the myth of the god Dionysos. With this work, Strongylis presents a piece that is very plastic, rhythmically, that often uses polytones and polycentry. It is the congress of a Greek and an orgiastic musical folklore that accompanies Dionysos without fail; and the fine layers of subtle inner harmonies, with which the composer expresses the seven human chakras in a totally novel way.
Each of the seven musical pieces has its own design on the ground. Together, they build the spatial pattern of the choreography (graphics: Anja Vogel).
The coproduction was founded by the Federal Land Saxony-Anhalt.
